Inspired by combining three characters in history.

1. Henry Vlll’s portrait by Hans Holbein the Younger (1497~1543). Henry stands proudly wearing his codpiece. A key part of his responsibility as King of England was to produce a male heir. Henry Vlll conveys a Lust for sex and status.

2. The Terracotta Army of Qin Shi Huang (late 200’s BCE). The riveted armour worn by the multiple soldiers exude power. The Terracotta army convey a Lust for power.

3. Cerne Abbas chalk figure, England. He is thought to be a fertility symbol (700-1100AD). He stands proud on the Dorset hillside. Cerne Abbas conveys a Lust for fertility.

These elements combine and the character is then placed on a platform which has a hint of a four poster bed. The pattern on the base where Lust stands is of roses, gently contributing a feeling of fertility and reproduction.

The four fruit pieces are in two stages, ready to bloom and then flowering implying a readiness for the moment of reproduction.

The text LUST is curved and rises like Henry Vlll’s codpiece.

The sculpture is not symbolic, it uses aspects of history as inspiration but then becomes an autonomous object.

1. 한스 홀바인 더 영거(Hans Holbein the Younger) (1497~1543) 가 그린 헨리 8세의 초상화
헨리 8세는 자신의 요대(codpiece)를 자랑스럽게 드러낸 채 서 있다. 잉글랜드 왕으로서 그의 주요 책임 중 하나는 남자 후계자를 생산하는 것이었다. 헨리 8세는 성적 욕망과 지위에 대한 욕망을 상징한다.

2.진시황의 흙으로 만든 군대 조각상 (기원전 200년대 후반)
다수의 병사들이 입고 있는 철갑 옷은 힘을 발산한다. 무덤에 같이 있는 군대 조작상은 권력에 대한 욕망을 상징한다.

3.영국의 세른 애버스 거대상 (Cerne Abbas chalk figure)
이 인물은 다산의 상징으로 여겨지며(700-1100년경), 영국 도싯(Dorset) 언덕에 당당히 서 있다. 세르네 애버스는 다산에 대한 욕망을 상징한다.

이 세 가지 요소가 결합되어 하나의 캐릭터를 형성하고, 그 캐릭터는 네 기둥이 있는 침대를 연상시키는 플랫폼 위에 배치된다. 캐릭터가 서 있는 기반에는 장미 무늬가 새겨져 있으며, 이는 다산과 생식의 느낌을 은은하게 전달한다.

네 개의 열매는 각각 두 단계로 나뉘어 있으며, 하나는 꽃을 피울 준비가 된 상태, 다른 하나는 완전히 개화한 상태로 표현되어 생식의 순간에 대한 준비 상태를 암시한다.

“LUST”라는 글자는 곡선을 이루며 헨리 8세의 요대처럼 위로 솟아오른다.

이 조각은 상징적인 작품이 아니라, 역사를 영감으로 삼아 독립적인 객체로 완성된 작품이다.
